Drill Checks

• Drill Checks analyzes drill layer for design errors and creates a report to list all the findings
• Drill Checks only provide analysis check, does not change layout content

Open Drill Checks

• In the Graphic Editor screen, select "Analysis" ，then select "Drill Checks" 。( Command：chklist_single )

Parameters

• Parameters values can be changed in the respective fields and saved in ERF
• All values and settings shown in this guide is by default
• Parameters interface are shown below ：

Parameters：

Layer

• Select layer to run analysis

Rout Distance

• Define rout spacing search radius, rout features within the range will be analyzed

Test list

• List of item to be analyzed
• [Hole Size], [Hole Separation], [Missing Holes], [Extra Holes], [Power/Ground Shorts], [NPTH to Rout]

Hole Types To Check for Extra

• Select Extra Hole to include drill holes for analysis, options are:
  • PTH holes
  • NPTH holes
  • Via holes

Use Compensated Rout

• Choose methods to analysis rout
  • Yes:Use compensated rout for analysis
  • No:Use original rout for analysis
  • Skeleton:use rout skeleton for analysis

Set Range

• Set range value for each analysis check items
• There are three types of analysis result: Critical, Warning or Safe
• Default setting is avaialble for all parameters
• Value can be changed in respective fields, and saved in ERF
• See below picture for the Range interface：

2nd Drilled Holes

• Define second drill holes in NPTH holes. Reference variable second drill width in Advance Variables , drill hole with size equal or bigger will be regarded as second drill

2nd Drilled PTH Holes

• Define second drill holes in PTH holes. Reference variable second drill width in Advance Variables , drill hole with size equal or bigger will be regarded as second drill

Tooling Holes

• List drill holes with .tooling_hole attribute

Mounting Holes

• List drill holes with .mount_hole attribute

Duplicate Holes

• Mark location of duplicate holes with two hole center distance lower than Duplicate Holes tolerance

Touching Holes

• Mark location of overlapping holes with two hole center distance lower than Touching Holes tolerance

Close Holes

• Mark location of close holes with two hole center distance lower than close hole dist

Missing Holes

• Detect missing drill holes by checking pads in corresponding layers, if two pad center point is lower than duplicate tolerance and without drill hole going through will be regarded as missing holes

Extra Holes

• Detect redundant drill holes, check corresponding layers for PTH holes and VIA holes to see if there is matching features, if not, mark the hole as an extra hole

Short

Short definition ： drill hole goes through two or more copper surface in power/ground layers

• Naming for this design error：
  • Drill hole goes through two layers：pgshort_ layer1_layer2
  • Drill hole goes throuhg more than two layers ：short 3, short 4, short_5.....
  • Drill hole goes throuhg more than ten layers ：short_ 10_up

NPTH to rout

• Analyze spacing between NPTH hole to rout center

Non-Standard Symbol

• Analyze drill hole marked with non standard symbols

Non-Standard Feature

• Analyze non standard pad features

Canned Text

• Analyze text drawn with drill holes

PTH Slot to rout

• Analyze spacing between PTH Slot to Rout center

NPTH Slot to rout

• Analyze spacing between NPTH Slot to Rout center

Same Net Close PTHs

• Analyze PTH holes in the same net that are close to each other

Run Drill Checks

• Run Drill Checks (Command：chklist_run)
• Three buttons in the lower interface, each button runs the module at different area range
  • Global ：Analyze all features in the layer ( Command：chklist_cupd )
  • Screen ：Analyze all features in the screen display area( Command：chklist_cupd )
  • Profile ：Analyze all features in profile frame( Command：chklist_cupd )

View Analysis Report

• Click the " ＋ " button on the lower right to view analysis report( Command：chklist_ res_show )

• Result Viewer Form will be opened after click on the " ＋ " button

Result Viewer Form

• In Result Viewer Form, Severity report will be displayed based on selected layers

View Detected Error in the Layout

• In Result Viewer Form, click " <-- " or " --> " to view each error entry in the layout (See example below)

• Click "Show All" will highlight all the error spots in the layout(See example below)

View Result Histogram for Analysis

• Select an error entry, click the bar icon on lower right to open Result Histogram
